چکیده

Starr, Patricia R. (Oregon State University, Corvallis) and L. W. Parks. Some factors affecting sterol formation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. J. Bacteriol. 83:1042-1046. 1962.-A wild-type diploid strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used in a study of factors that influence sterol synthesis. Maltose, glucose, sodium acetate, and ethanol were shown to be readily available for sterol synthesis in growing cultures of yeast. In cells grown anaerobically and then exposed to various substrates in aerobic resting-cell suspension, only glucose and ethanol stimulated ergosterol formation. Under these conditions, sterol synthesis was directly proportional to the amount of glucose provided. Sulfanilamide decreased the yield of sterol in growing cells, but had no effect on sterol synthesis by resting cultures.

Cumulative mutations affecting sterol biosynthesis in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae result in synthetic lethality that is suppressed by alterations in sphingolipid profiles.

UPC2 and ECM22 belong to a Zn(2)-Cys(6) family of fungal transcription factors and have been implicated in the regulation of sterol synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans. Previous reports suggest that double deletion of these genes in S. cerevisiae is lethal depending on the genetic background of the strain. In this investigation we demonstrate that lethality of upc2Delta e...

Production of vitamin D3 enriched biomass of Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a potential food supplement: evaluation and optimization of culture conditions using Plackett–Burman and response surface methodological approaches

Vitamin D deficiency causes osteoporosis, osteopenia, fractures, rickets and more recently is linked with some chronic illnesses such as cancer. Because of the safety and probiotic properties of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, we hypothesized that yeast cells enriched with cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) could represent a solution for prevention or treatment of vitamin D deficiency. In this st...

The Effect of Biosurfactant of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae on Biofilms Produced by Staphylococcus Aureus, Epidermidis and Saprophyticus: A Laboratory Study

Background and Objectives: Biosurfactants are amphiphilic molecules produced by microorganisms that due to  surfactant activity, have several applications in different industries such as cleaning, emulsification, foaming and dispersion. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of biosurfactant extracted from saccharomycess cerevisiae on biofilm formation of staphylococcus aureus (PTC...

Genome-wide analysis of sterol-lipid storage and trafficking in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

The pandemic of lipid-related disease necessitates a determination of how cholesterol and other lipids are transported and stored within cells. The first step in this determination is the identification of the genes involved in these transport and storage processes. Using genome-wide screens, we identified 56 yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) genes involved in sterol-lipid biosynthesis, intracel...
